The manager of a wedding dress shop in New Jersey told a bride she couldn’t purchase the wedding dress of her dreams because she was marrying a woman.
Alix Genter is marrying her longtime partner in New York next year. She traveled to the New Jersey store Here Comes the Bride with her family, found the gown of her dreams and asked for a version in a different fabric. All was well.
Then she got a call from the store’s manager, who said she wouldn’t sell Alix the dress. The manager, Donna (who hasn’t released her last name), noticed that Alix had crossed out the word “groom” on her paperwork and replaced it with “partner.” Donna told Alix her homosexuality and her marriage were wrong, shameful, and - get this - illegal. She said she would refuse to participate in any illegal actions.
Hey, remember how same-sex marriage is legal in New York now? Right.
The column above summarizes the event better than any other I’ve found. This kind of homophobia is disgusting and inexcusable, and the entire country is looking on this dress shop with shame.
The proof? The shop’s Yelp page has a one-star rating, is ridden with reviews telling the woman how bigoted and ignorant she is, and best of all, the user-uploaded pictures are now of rainbows and pro-gay marriage signs.
It’s a small gesture from the Internet in response to a horrible, horrible action. Never visit this store.
(read no further if you’re not caught up! also, i never read spoilers or clues to future episodes, so if there’s something they’ve already told us/hinted at i, assuredly, have not read tale. so this is all me, geekvomiting)
soooo i have this theory that has been knocking around in my cranium since, mere hours upon my return stateside, i caught myself up on who. before divulging, can i be the last to say that river song’s identity was SUCH a surprise, beautifully handled, and made for a delightful plot twist!
but to the theory: i think it was river who shot the doctor dead in ‘the impossible astronaut.’ either river, or the silence.(or possibly, the doctor himself…getting there).
because, for whatever dark or warped reason, the silence seemed to be trying to take care of the little girl, whom we now infer to be river (because the little girl is a time lord/river was conceived in the TARDIS, and there was that mysterious photo on the bureau in the little girl’s room at the orphanage). yet river’s lack of acknowledgement of her younger self raises questions for me. being a time traveler she surely must be aware that interacting with her own timeline could rip a hole in the fabric of reality (she even tells amy this in the episode in question).
THEREFORE, i argue there are three possibilities for this interaction: (a) she did a marvelously convincing job of covering up the fact that she was the little girl in danger during ‘impossible astronaut’/’day of the moon’ (unlikely), OR (b) she had no memory of the events (long-term residue of copious amounts of time spent with the silence) OR (c) that never happened to the river song in that episode- it was an alternate reality.
THEREFORE, i contend that there now exists one of two possibilities, each leading to a demise of one doctor, but not the only doctor.
possibility one: it is the doctor who entrusts the silence with river, because he knows with them she will be safe? i kind of doubt this, unless he had to strike a deal with them- giving river as a trade-off for something greater. thus, when he is older, he realizes he is responsible for destroying their entire race- and therefore must pay his debt. he trusted them with river; now he pays for her life and their destruction with his own.
possibility two: an alternate reality has been created- one where river is raised by amelia and rory, one where she is held captive (not that those realities are necessarily exclusive, but bear with me. i’m speculating!). somehow, through wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff, two doctors cross paths on their own timeline. and so one doctor must die- the one who exists in the reality where everything goes to shit and river is tortured (or something).
which brings me to this: river is the one who killed that doctor.
and that is why she is prison, for killing the best man she ‘possibly’ ever knew.
bam. thoughts? contentions? alternate selves want to hash this out?
